“Even when you breathe your breath is burning out of Sorrow”: Grandmother and Grand Daughter’s Reflections of Nakba, Displacement, and the Present

Today’s recorded conversation with young Palestinian graduate students in Berlin Malika and Laila (using pseudonyms for security reasons) about the history and current experiences of one family in Southern Lebanon/Northern Palestine. The story begins in Salha, one village in the region, destroyed and many of its people killed by the Israeli military or displaced during the Nakba. Today’s program combines a recorded interview with Um Nazih, the grandmother of Malika conducted by her cousin Marwa in September of this year. The other is language-interpreted conversation and commentary of Um Nazih’s thoughts by Malika and Laila her friend.
