Albinism is an autoimmune disorder, it is not contagious and it does not define the person. However, they are so discriminated against that many contemplate suicide and there are those who actually follow through because the isolation is too unbearable. Watch your words, actions and body language it can have deadly effects on those who are on the receiving end of negativity. On the other had positive words, actions and body language can have effects as well, but in a positive manner. How would you cope with being ostracized by your own family within your household? What if you were relegated to eat a separate table alone from early childhood, what impact might this have on you? What is it like to be a person with albinism as though it defines who you are? To be a person with albinism is not who you are; you are a human being with an immune-compromising illness called albinism. How would you cope with knowing that your nationality or ethnic group you were born in does not accept you nor do other groups? Where do you find comfort and a community where you can be yourself without judgment? List as one Black female gives you a small glimpse into her world of hurt, isolation, depression, rape, physical abuse and so much more.
