Forest Residue Biochar with Dr. Dipita Ghosh
Episode 149
Friday, 21 August, 2026

"Role of biochar made from low-value woody forest residues in ecological sustainability and carbon neutrality" with Dipita Ghosh. Forest debris can clutter forests, squelch healthy growth, and increase the risks of dangerous wildfires, but open burning these residues can be just as problematic, with increased greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, and, that's right, wildfire risks. Turning forest debris into biochar instead can alleviate a lot of these problems while increasing soil health in degraded regions, but to what degree is biochar useful and how can we get it where it needs to go? In this episode, Dipita joins me to discuss her work on all things biochar.
