292. What Do You Want to Be Remembered For? What Charlie Kirk's Answer Changed for Me
Thursday, 10 September, 2026
One year ago today, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was thirty-one years old. Before his death, when asked what he wanted to be remembered for, his answer was immediate and unambiguous: I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. In this deeply personal episode, Tanya Engesether reflects on that answer — and on what it has stirred in her own wrestling with the legacy question. Not from a safe distance, but from the middle of her own discernment about leadership, about timing, about what it means to leave well, and about what the best legacy actually looks like. She names the ways she has been getting the legacy question wrong — holding on until everything is fixed, waiting for the approval of people who may never give it, allowing one hard season to loom too large over the whole story of a leadership tenure. And she offers the biblical reframe that has begun to change her relationship with the question: legacy is not the reputation you leave. It is the seeds you plant. And the harvest belongs to God. She talks about the roles that are most permanently hers — wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend — and the honest reckoning of what those relationships have sometimes received and what they have sometimes not. She addresses the courage for faith that Charlie Kirk's answer named — and that her own context has sometimes muted in favor of the safer, more professionally digestible version of herself. And she closes with the invitation that is at the heart of everything: what do you want to be remembered for? And are you living toward it? This episode is honest, vulnerable, and genuinely personal. It is for every woman who is carrying the weight of a legacy she is not sure is good enough — and who needs to hear that faithful is more than enough. I hope this episode blesses you!
