Make Mine Multiversity #145: “Mutant X” #1-12 with Zack Quaintance; or, Rent's Cheap in the Middle of the Hudson
Episode 145
Friday, 11 September, 2026
Welcome Back to Make Mine Multiversity: A Marvel Podcast! Each episode we’ll be looking at Marvel books, old and new! We discuss fun Marvel comics, Marvel news, Marvel history and, now, are putting the "mine" back into Make Mine Multiversity. For those who're new, each month I talk with a guest about a Marvel comic that's memorable to them. Sometimes they're personally meaningful, sometimes it's "I read this a few months ago and its still sticking around."For our return from the summer hiatus, I welcome to the show, Zack Quaintance, writer and comics reviewer from Comics Bookcase and The Beat.Digging deep into the recesses of the 90s, we're reading the start of a wild X run, "Mutant X" #1-12. It's definitely not what you're thinking or expecting. It does have Storm as a vampire and her name is Bloodstorm. Hickman? You listening?Quick correction to: it's Mike Carey, not Joe Kelly, who did Children of the Vault. My bad.Next time: Not sure yet! Could be the first six issues of the original "Runaways" run. Could be something from "Uncanny X-Men." Could be something really out of left field! All depends on which episode I get edited first.Elias can be found writing here at eliasrwrites.ghost.io. Zack is the comics review editor for The Beat and a comics creator in his own right. He's currently running a Kickstarter for "Death of Comics Bookcase," Vol. 2. It's great! Volume 1 rocked and this one's got a sick Jesse Lonergan variant cover. Our theme music is “Excelsior” by Carol Romo and our audio editor is me, Elias. The show is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, (Stitcher is apparently dead and buried) and other places so please subscribe!
