Ibrahim Abdelfatah AlChaachai, also spelled Ibrahim Abdelfatah AlShaashai or Ibrahim Abdelfatah AlChaashai, was a celebrated Egyptian Quran reciter best known for his mastery of multiple recitation methods. Born on July 10, 1930, in Cairos Darb al-Ahmar district, he grew up in a devout Quran-memorizing family and learned the Quran under his father and Sheikh Amir Othman. He later studied Tajwd at Al-Azhar, further refined his maqmt under Sheikh Darwish al-Hariri, and joined Egyptian radio in 1968. He became one of the most prominent voices on Cairo Radio and later served as imam at the Sayyida Zaynab Mosque. He also recited in Mecca, Medina, and Egypts Arafat station. Skilled in the Hafs an im riwyah and knowledgeable in Warsh an Nfi, his vocal style combined technical precision, multiple riwyt, and emotive presence, earning widespread admiration and invitations to recite internationally. He passed away in 1992, leaving behind a treasury of recorded full-surah recitationssuch as l Imrn, Maryam, Al-Fath, Ar-Ramn, Al-Wqiah, and Ad-Dhuthat continue to be studied and appreciated for their clarity, melodic richness, and Tajwd excellence.
