In 1997 James Gill Jr. began his career at Synovus Bank. After 10 years of growth there, while only in his mid-thirties, James made a risky move and left Synovus for the opportunity to become President of River City Bank, a private start-up enterprise he and his team founded in 2007 in Carrollton, Georgia. In today's episode of Small-Time Leaders, James shares with us the analytical and research skills he learned while participating in the debate club led by Richard Bracknell. His coach had a special way of growing the club's engagement as he paid heavy attention to the collaboration between club members which brought them a high success rate on their debates. James tells us how those lessons of strong engagement and collaboration are essential practices in his business today as well. After several years of leading the enterprise to be profitable and set up for future success. James left River City for a more public-facing position.
