The GunsOnPegs PodcastA sideways look at the world of game shooting and the countryside in the UK Author: GunsOnPegs
The no.1 Game Shooting Podcast in the UK One of the best parts of a day out shooting is the chat with your mates in the pub at the end of the day or on the gunbus. The GunsOnPegs Podcast attempts to bottle that rambling conversation. In the company of a different special guest from the world for shooting each episode, we pour ourselves a drink and tackle the big topics - and the small ones - in fieldsports, conservation, land management and more, always with a wry smile or a downright silly atmosphere. Our guests share their expertise, wisdom (or their lack of each) as well as helping us to resolve listener's shooting dilemmas in Whose Bird is it Anyway, debating the audience's Unpopular Opinions and discussing more listener correspondence. The Black Grouse Episode
Monday, 6 April, 2026
Matt Ridley (aka Baron Wensleydale) is back to tell Chris and George about his estate - East Carnigill - which was recently awarded the 2025 Purdey Gold Award. We also dig into some of the systemic challenges that estates like East Carnigill face, and how these stifle progress. The estate was praised by the judges for its incredible black grouse conservation efforts, and these birds are a real passion for Matt. We dive into his book - a study of the phenomenon of lekking, and reveal perhaps the most surprising and baffling bird in the world.
