Hello, and welcome The Brown and Serve Scrolls podcast series. We believe there are a lot of people who have bought into the idea that spirituality and religion are just no fun. And that God, in whatever way we tend to understand God, doesnt have a sense of humor. We are also convinced that nothing could be further from the truth than that idea. So, this podcast series is devoted to presenting a very unusual and humorous collection of revamped stories, based on the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, that are amusing, enjoyable, and entertaining. And by the way, while youre listening, you might find some insights and perspectives about life that you may not have considered otherwise. The Man Who Fell in the Well
Episode 3
Friday, 6 February, 2026
Judson’s Cove, tucked way back in Grundy Holler, squats right under the chin of Mount Cheery—the tallest hunk of rock in the whole state. Folks come from miles around to hike its winding trails, gape at the overlooks, and generally pretend they haven’t got a single worry in the world while nature does all the heavy lifting. Now this story kicks off when a fella named Joe heads up the mountain for a peaceful hike. Peaceful, that is, until he steps where he shouldn’t and plummets ker-splash into an old well that hasn’t been useful since before common sense was invented. Down there, Joe sits—bruised, wet, and stuck tighter than a cork in a moonshine jug. But before long, four different passersby wander along and hear Joe hollering for help. He asks each one, polite as can be, to help him get out of the well. The first three, bless their hearts, can’t seem to offer much of anything to help Joe escape. Instead, they serve up advice that’s about as useful as a screen door on a submarine—suggestions involving positive thinking, finding inner peace, or maybe just accepting that wells might be cozy once you get used to them. Just when Joe’s about ready to take up permanent residence underground, the fourth encounter comes along—and that’s where things take a turn stranger than a three-legged raccoon at a square dance. What happens next flips the whole mess on its head and leaves Joe and anyone else listening and wondering whether getting stuck in that well was bad luck… or something else again.
