On March 3, 2025, Nayeli Vivanco, VP of Resident Life and Intercultural Development, took the stage at SXSW EDU where she discussed the role of free speech in a polarized world and how to give everyone a voice. At International House, we believe in the power of open dialogue and bridging cultural divides. Nayeli shared how we create inclusive spaces that welcome all voices—even amidst complex global issues.Overview:College campuses are often lightning rods for debating geopolitical issues, world and local politics and any number of controversial topics. In today's highly polarized world, is it possible to maintain an open dialogue for opposing viewpoints and still make progress? UC Berkeley's International House say yes.
