The Lord’s Prayer: Hallowing the Name of God
Sunday, 4 October, 2026
This sermon explores the first petition of the Lord's Prayer, "Hallowed be your name," arguing that it serves as the foundational lens through which all other requests must be viewed. Drawing on Martin Luther's teachings and Thomas Watson's exposition, the message defines God's name as His essential being and character, emphasizing that to hallow His name is to set it apart from common use to sacred ends. Pastor Jason outlines three practical ways believers hallow God's name: through praise in worship, proclamation of His excellencies, and holy practice in daily life. By contrasting the perfect worship of heaven with the imperfect worship of earth, the sermon calls for a reverent approach to prayer that prioritizes God's glory over personal needs. Ultimately, the message offers comfort in the assurance that God is actively working to vindicate His holy name through the work of Jesus Christ, encouraging believers to align their hearts with this divine purpose.
