Winemakers Cliff Royle and Julian Scott from Flametree Wines
Episode 3
Sunday, 13 December, 2020

The grant we received for this Video Podcast is aimed at showcasing regional vineyards and supporting the farming community which supplies the local wine industry. Today we are speaking with the people who turn this quality fruit into the delicious drops that our customers love, our winemakers. Yes, we probably will venture into some technical winemaking jargon (which wine nerds will love), but we also want to discuss some other topics that will be of interest to you. There is a worldwide movement around the provenance of our food, of buying local – the theme "from farm to plate" is used globally on cooking and lifestyle programs and to sell a myriad of products. Following this theme, we are speaking on the theme of "vine to wine" and the impact of vineyard management and fruit characteristics on wine style and quality. 🎙Interviewer: Leah Clearwater 🗣Interviewee: Cliff Royle and Julian Scott Key topics discussed: The story behind falling in love with the art of winemaking. The importance of visiting our growers throughout the year. The main features of the region’s Chardonnay “style” and how it has evolved over the years. The main characteristic of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Margaret River region and how it compares to international Carbernets or from other Australian regions. The not-so-romantic elements of winemaking and the pressure points others may not be aware of. Why Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are known as the Queen and King of grape varieties.
