Early Life and Influences Kendrick Lamar grew up in Compton, a city notorious for its high crime rates and gang violence. Despite the challenges of his environment, Lamar found solace in music from a young age. He was inspired by his father's extensive record collection, which exposed him to a variety of genres, including soul, funk, and hip-hop. As a teenager, Lamar attended Centennial High School, where he excelled academically and developed his passion for writing and performing. He was particularly influenced by the works of Tupac Shakur, Nas, and Jay-Z, who he considered to be among the greatest rappers of all time.
