PREVIEW: TITANS vs. EAGLES - 0-2? Do the #TITANS have a CHANCE? We DISCUSS! After a 24-22 victory in Week 1, the Philadelphia Eagles travel south to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. Here are three key matchups to watch.Jeffery Simmons vs. the Eagles’ Interior Offensive LineAt the core of Tennessee’s defense sits Simmons, anchoring the interior of their defensive line. Simmons is one of the most talented defensive linemen in the NFL. Last season, he piled up 11 sacks and 60 quarterback pressures, earning his third career All-Pro honors. He is just as disruptive against the run, recording 42 defensive stops.Simmons’ strengths align directly with the main issues that plagued the Eagles’ offense in their season opener: the performance of the interior of their offensive line.Against the Commanders, Landon Dickerson allowed four pressures, while Tyler Steen was beat four times and Cam Jurgens was called for two penalties. With Dickerson now on the injured reserve list, I believe that the unit will actually benefit from inserting Drew Kendall in place of a struggling veteran. However, facing a dynamic, space-eating disrupter like Jeffrey Simmons is a nightmare draw for Kendall, who brings very little experience against top-tier NFL interior talent.DeVonta Smith vs. Tennessee’s SecondaryOutside of a 31-yard sideline grab, Smith had a quiet outing in the season opener, finishing with just three catches for 51 yards. With A.J. Brown’s departure this offseason, the spotlight is on Smith to finally have the type of production expected from a true WR1. The Titans’ secondary presents Smith with an opportunity to have a monster game.Tennessee’s secondary had a mediocre showing against the Jets. Geno Smith, who led the NFL in interceptions the previous season, finished with just five incompletions. Alontae Taylor was a particular weak point, earning an abysmal 37.4 PFF coverage grade.The last time the Eagles faced a Robert Saleh-led defense, Smith caught eight passes for 70 yards. It will be key for the Eagles to get Smith involved early and often.Cam Ward vs. the Eagles’ Pass RushWard flashed real potential during his rookie season, showcasing a talented arm and making difficult throws downfield despite a lackluster supporting cast. However, his biggest flaw was a distinct drop-off in performance under pressure.ADVERTISINGThe Miami product took the most sacks in the NFL with 55, tied only with Geno Smith. When he wasn’t getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage, Ward completed under 42% of his passes and threw the same number of interceptions as touchdowns (4).In the Titans season opener, those struggles remained the same. Ward completed just 50% of his throws when under pressure, compared to 63.6 percent when he had a clean pocket. Ward was also sacked three times.The Eagles’ blitz rate was top ten across the league in Week 1 and found decent success. Despite only recording one sack, the Eagles pressured Jayden Daniels on 50% of his dropbacks. Ward is far less mobile than Daniels. I expect Vic Fangio to remain aggressive in his play calling to heat Ward up, especially after he criticized the performance of the Eagles’ pass rush despite the win.
