When the country was facing oxygen shortage during the 2nd wave of covid 19 prof atrey of IIT Bombay came up with an idea to tackle this problem. In most of colleges, nitrogen plants are present. He with his research team converted nitrogen-producing plants to oxygen plants. In nitrogen plants, the pressure of the air is controlled and then it is cleaned of impurities such as water vapors, oil, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons. After this step, the purified air goes into the PSA chamber which is fitted with filters that can separate nitrogen and oxygen. They replaced the sieves with the one that can separate oxygen. It took them about three days to do the conversion. It is a simple process and can be done quickly within a few days. Nitrogen plants across the country can use this technique to convert their plants into oxygen plants. They are also talking with government officials to help existing plants in adopting this model,
