003: Lack of Black Representation in Nursing and its Effect on Healthcare

Nursing like many profession in the US has a serious problem with representation of minorities, especially African Americans. With over 4 million Registered Nurses in the United States the percentage that are African American is shameful! Why in this day and age and century there is such lack of representation in this profession. Let's not forget the advance practice nursing career, there is a huge shortage of minorities, because if we cannot get our foot in the door to start the journey as nurses we definitely will not be able to advance within this wonderful, rewarding profession. In this episode I am sharing with you my experience as a nursing student as well as a nurse working in hospitals in the critical care area as sometimes the only minority.
