Ep. 119: The Warehouse troubles (ft. Julian Baron)
Episode 9
Wednesday, 16 September, 2026

The Orioles’ season is effectively over — and the biggest problem may not be the pitching, the injuries, or even the manager. Justin Lunenfeld and Baltimore Sun editorial board member Julian Baron examine how a promising young core became a team defined by missed opportunities, stalled development, and an organization that keeps choosing the future over winning now.Julian brings a sharp diagnosis of the Orioles’ systemic issues, from Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo, and Samuel Basallo struggling to make the transition to the majors, to a player-development structure that seems to turn elite prospects into lesser versions of themselves. They also assess whether Matt Blood’s departure actually addresses the problem, whether Craig Albernaz is the right manager for a young team, and why Brandon Hyde’s success elsewhere complicates the criticism aimed at the dugout. You’ll hear the case for a major front-office reset, including why the Orioles may need an experienced major league general manager who understands both analytics and the human side of baseball.
