Alexander Horwath est le directeur de l'Österreichisches Filmmuseum de Vienne. Il a dirigé le festival de la Viennale de 1992 à 1997. Critique, il a écrit sur le cinéma américain des années 70, sur Michael Haneke et sur les avant-gardes en Autriche. Il a aussi codirigé l'ouvrage Film curatorship: Archives, Museums, and the Digital Marketplace (Wallflower, 2008).
