Building a Doom Scene, One Riff at a Time | Wes McCumbeeThis week on ImVibes Podcast, we're hanging out with Wes McCumbee! Wes wears a lot of hats in the local music scene, and we're getting into two of our favorite things: heavy music and the people who make it happen.First up, we're talking all things Stoned Riff Revival Festival! Now in its second year, Wes takes us behind the scenes of putting together a two-night celebration of stoner rock, sludge, and doom metal, including the lineup, venue changes, booking headaches, and his desire to give some deserving bands a place to shine. We also dive into Wes's band Beyond the Portal — how the band came together, their evolution, and the bizarre, psychedelic, alien-inspired concepts behind their music. We discuss everything from Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and Metallica to Crass, Dead Kennedys, Kyuss, and plenty more.Plus, we get into the local doom and sludge scene, upcoming shows, favorite cover songs, musical influences, and what it takes to keep an underground music community alive. As always, there's plenty of music talk, questionable opinions, a few drinks, and the usual ImVibes comedic banter.
