The PROJcastAuthor: The 52nd Street Project
A production of The 52nd Street Project, a non-profit arts education organization working with young people (ages 9 - 18) in Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan. The Project brings them together with adult artists to create original work for the theater. The PROJcast offers a behind-the-scenes view of the work of the Project as the kids create and explore theater as well as other art forms, such as song, dance, poetry, film, and more. Long term-mentoring relationships form the basis of much of the Project's work, and these episodes will feature reporting, stories, performances and interviews with kids and adults. "When you write a song, you can pour your heart out into it." - Sophia, age 11. Our Songmaking program teaches the young people the basics of creating their own songs, and pairs them up with adults from NYU Tisch School for the Arts Musical Theater Writing Program, or BerkleeNYC's Power Station, to create a concert of new music performed by amazing adult professionals. In these "Behind the Keyboard" interviews, Atif, Sophia, and Zion talk about their inspirations, their experiences, and their hopes for the free concert RAISE YOUR VOICE, on Friday, October 24, in our Five Angels Theater, and streaming for free on our YouTube Channel.. - - - - - Project Members: Atif, Sophia, & Zion.
