From Hollywood Sets to Lasting Legacy with Jean Cherie
Episode 36
Friday, 24 April, 2026
Jean Cherie is an accomplished sculptor whose career spans more than three decades across Hollywood, fine art, and public installation. Known for her remarkable versatility, she began her creative journey in Southern California working as a sculptor, mold maker, and costume fabricator for the entertainment industry. Her credits include iconic productions such as The Flintstones, Hocus Pocus, H.R. Pufnstuf, and projects featuring the Toys “R” Us giraffe, as well as a portrait of Patty Duke for a Hallmark Hall of Fame special. Her years in Hollywood refined not only her technical skill, but also her collaborative artistry—working alongside directors, designers, engineers, actors, and fellow sculptors to bring imaginative worlds to life. From intricate miniature builds to large-scale cinematic environments, Jean Cherie has sculpted nearly everything imaginable. After relocating to San Francisco in 2003, she turned her focus toward figurative fine art, dedicating herself to exploring the beauty, emotion, and complexity of the human form through live-model sculpting in clay. Her work now spans ceramic, bronze, stone, and reclaimed materials, blending classical craftsmanship with expressive depth. Now based in Vallejo, Jean Cherie is an active member of the thriving creative community and works from Mare Island Art Studios. In 2015, she completed a six-foot public cement sculpture of a Mother and Child near the Vallejo Ferry Building, a cherished piece embraced by the community. Jean Cherie describes her work as an exploration of “the depths of the human map, the persona, and the outer face and form we present to the world.” Through each sculpture, she seeks to reveal the spirit within the surface and create art that reflects the soul back to the viewer.
