11-1-2026 All Saints And The Thin Veil

The veil between life and death can feel thinner than we like to admit. All Saints Sunday invites us to tell the truth about that, not with fear, but with reverence and honesty. We start with the ache of separation and the promise that one day we will see God face to face, holding on to a resurrection hope that does not minimize suffering but insists it will not have the final word.We also name how grief actually works. So much mourning happens in private: in the shower, alone in the car, or at the kitchen table late at night. When we gather in worship, we quietly confess that every person carries spaces in the heart once filled by someone beloved. From there, we turn to Jesus’ Beatitudes, hearing them not as a checklist for “perfect saints,” but as blessings spoken over real people whose strength has worn thin.The Beatitudes sketch God’s vision for the world: comfort for those who mourn, gentleness with backbone for the meek, a holy hunger for righteousness and justice, mercy that softens revenge, purity of heart that learns to see God’s image in each person, and peacemaking that chooses hard reconciliation over easy hatred.
