What Would Kate Do? (specifically Kate Winslet, as an actress )Author: Angie Hung
Real & funny talk about Kate Winslet and how her acting work & related choices promote the hard work of acting, being present as an actor, getting the most out of (and giving the most to) the other actors in the room, female empowerment and characterization, evolution of female strength, and more. This podcast is for fun & education, and not for monetary purposes. Because I love acting and Kate Winslet! She's the best free actors' guide ever! Excuse me as we iron out the kinks and try to find our "vision" of this podcast and how it relates to what Kate would do as an actress. This isn't a movie or film review podcast. It's about how Kate maximizes the potential of the character and the movie by using the hard work involved with the acting process, about her choices as an actress, and her technical, emotional, and physical resources while playing a character (thanks Juan). Let us know your feedback by emailing whatwouldkatedo [AT] shaw.ca. What do you want more of, in the context of this podcast? We want to add even more focus on what Kate's acting and roles, and how she embodies the characters, have done to progress female empowerment, at the time each movie or TV show was filmed.Thank you Rumble House https://www.facebook.com/rumblehouseliveart/ for doing the podcast artwork for us! Season 2 Episode 6 What Kate Winslet did for Goodbye June
Episode 6
Saturday, 7 February, 2026
A deep thorough passionate examination of Goodbye June by Angie and Anne. There are spoilers in this podcast, and a blooper. This was recorded back on January 20, 2026.0:34. Intro / Our general thoughts: We are the most informed people on earth about Goodbye June ! Angie saw it three times in England in person before its release on Netflix. We listened to all the interviews. Did this movie meet our very high expectations?11:34. In a funny reference to the film, Angie clicks annoyingly on her pen. Humor used in the film including with Toni’s character, the opening scenes, and the clever parts of the script that had nothing to do with dialog.17:48. If Kate will direct again, and how she always says it with a caveat: “If I get to direct again…”.20:22. How we liked that the diversity wasn’t pushed on the audience, it just existed and was.23:21. How close is this movie based on the real-life family of Joe Anders and Kate Winslet?23:47. Shout out to Honey Doughnuts & Goodies in Deep Cove, Vancouver. A scene in the movie is directly from a real-life singing occurrence that happened here.27:50. Strategies that Kate used as a director, including with the young child actors. How Angie is distracted by something way more than boom mics.35:54. How Anne would be a good director, and how this relates to an incredible memory and communication talent that Kate has.40:03. Was Kate insane to act, produce, and direct all at once? Would it have been easier for her to just direct?40:37. Acting performances that stood out. Which characters (and thus the acting) could have been expanded more.44:28. Anne suddenly interrupts, how she remembers a 2016 actress roundtable that included Helen Mirren and where Kate says she’d love to work with Toni Collette one day. How serendipitous! 46:14. Challenges that women directors face that men directors don’t. And challenges that Kate faces that other women directors don’t. Is it also just the British media?54:59. An agonizing transition into Sense and Sensibility led by Anne. Angie rolls her eyes, and apologizes to our audience for this LOL.57:36. A request to Sir Tim Rice to write a musical for Kate so that she can finally get her EGOT. 😊59:01. The importance of watching movies in theatres (said by people including James Cameron and Leonardo DiCaprio), contrasted with how Netflix is a streaming service that hugely helped Kate and Joe.1:03:11. Our excitement (more like Anne’s obsession) to hear the upcoming Lessons From Our Mothers podcast with Kate. At the time of our recording, it had not come out yet. It’s out now! Fantastic conversation with Kate.1:06:20. How Kate gave many “firsts” to people (examples Ben Harlan, Grace Clark), and how she remembers everyone who has helped her in her career or life.1:13:24. We were right about our initial thoughts about the comma (“Goodbye, June”) in Toni’s Instagram story. Our message to Kate’s PR people: Have genuine supporters interview her, and she is guaranteed to have a refreshing informed magical time!1:18:15. We end on a Kate quote about directing, and a few false endings! 😊Happy one year anniversary to Anne (@kleocore on Instagram)!Goodbye June is directed by Kate Winslet and is written by Kate’s son Joe Anders. The movie stars Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Andrea Riseborough, Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, and Fisayo Akinade. You can contact this podcast at whatwouldkatedo {at} shaw.ca Thank you Rumble House https://www.facebook.com/rumblehouseliveart/ for doing the podcast artwork for us!
