Hi folks! It's been awhile. Although I've posted a few videos on my Youtube channel, I've not sent out a ChantHacks episode for a few months.Yesterday, my wife, Catherine, son, Joseph, and I went to the Carmel of the Holy Family in Valparaiso, Nebraska for Mass. It being the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost, the Alleluia was Magnus Dominus. I love this Alleluia! Ten years ago (2015), I started writing a "paraphrase mass" based on this chant. (A "paraphrase mass" is composed using the material of a pre-existing tune, usually a Gregorian Chant.) I completed the Kyrie that year, but not the rest. Over the next couple of years, I completed the Gloria and Sanctus, both of which we sang at the British Columbia Sacred Music Symposium, August 3 & 4, 2019 (exactly six years ago). That's as far as I've gotten.Here's a recording of the Kyrie sung in workshop by Belle Voci (bellevoci.ca) in August, 2017.Let me know if you like it and think I should finish the mass (Credo & Agnus Dei).God bless!
