Gingerbread-Blonde Wigs and Magical Chiffon Capes in Bewitched (2005)
Episode 255
Monday, 3 November, 2025
Costume design breakdown of Bewitched (2005) starring Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, and Shirley MacLaine — directed by Nora Ephron and costume design by Mary Zophres. We're wrapping up Freaky Witch Month with the sweetest sorceress in suburbia: Bewitched (2005)! Nicole Kidman stars as Isabel Bigelow, a real-life witch trying to live a normal life, opposite Will Ferrell's egomaniac TV actor in Nora Ephron's meta rom-com remake of the '60s classic. Costume designer Mary Zophres (La La Land, The Big Lebowski) serves up vintage-meets-Y2K whimsy with cardigans, pastel skirts, and preppy capri pants that turn Kidman into the anti–Practical Magic witch — sweet, soft, and suburban. But the real style icon is Shirley MacLaine as Iris/Endora — a walking Technicolor spell in chiffon, feathers, and finger-loop capes! She's an old-Hollywood witchcore vision draped in 20 yards of fabric and pure chaos, the kind of diva smoke show only Shirley could pull off. In this episode, we chat about: Mary Zophres's flirty, feminine, and timeless designs Nicole Kidman's demure 2000s-meets-1960s wardrobe evolution Shirley MacLaine's over-the-top "murder robes" and real-life witchy vibes Manifesting a Bewitched remake starring Pedro Pascal Segment Highlights: Mary Zophres's credits and inspo Top Looks and trivia Add to Cart: the fashion moments that made us want to shop Bonus tangents include: Marie's coven-themed birthday dinner, Blaire getting babysat by Shirley MacLaine, and a spontaneous deep dive into 2000s remakes no one asked for (but we kind of love).
