EP#289 (355) The Spy Washington Never Named, With Dr. Randy Overbeck
Episode 289
Wednesday, 23 September, 2026
Two hundred and fifty years later, we still do not know her real name. Historians call her only "355," a number buried inside the Culper Ring, George Washington's real spy network in British-occupied New York. Award-winning educator and bestselling novelist Dr. Randy Overbeck joins host and producer Dr. Tom Dutta on The Quiet Warrior Show to talk about his historical suspense novel, ABIGAIL TRENCH: A Novel of Washington's Spy Ring (Diversion Books, distributed by Simon and Schuster). Overbeck gives that unnamed woman a name, a voice, and a reason for disappearing so completely from the record. In this conversation: ✓ How three decades in education led to seven published novels and nine national awards ✓ The real historical mystery behind an unnamed woman spy lost for 250 years ✓ Why the Culper Ring's secrecy still keeps historians guessing today ✓ Historical details Randy's own research turned up that even he had never encountered "[A] rousing, top-notch tale of courage amid our nation's struggle for independence."
