Silent Survivors Talk: The Realities of Reporting Rape in Canada

Silent Survivors Talk: The Realities of Reporting Rape in Canada

Author: Lasina Jensen

When I was 14 years old, I was raped by someone our family trusted. I was in a precarious position, which created an ideal situation for my offender. I went from victim to criminal within 24 hours or giving my statement to the Edmonton police. Why report any sexual offense when Canadian statistics clearly show that only 5% of the 7% of the cases are charged? Why report it when the tables are often turned against the victim? This podcast and my story aims to hear and validate the voices of the countless number of women and men who have been raped or sexually abused. Join me in my mission!
