When In Roam: Conversations with Travel WritersConversations with Travel Writers Author: Christine Maxfield
Whenever I tell people that I'm a travel writer, their first response tends to be to raise their eyebrows followed by lots of questions. What's it like? Where have you been? How did you first get into that business? I understand their reactions, since this career can be considered a bit...eccentric. But it also means that I'm fortunate enough to call some of the most fascinating people my friends, since travel writers are always on the ready with a good story. So stay tuned every other Monday for a new conversation between myself & an author. I hope you enjoy their tales of adventures, exotic foods, interesting traditions, & perilous interactions abroad as much as I have! When In Roam: Andrew Blackwell
Monday, 20 January, 2014
I can honestly say that my next guest is one of the most fascinating people I've ever had the pleasure to speak with! In fact, the word "fascinating" came up again & again during my interview with filmmaker & journalist Andrew Blackwell, specifically about his travels. Andrew calls himself a "pollution tourist," since he has traversed the globe seeking out the dirtiest & most degraded areas in the world to try to find some beauty amidst the muck. His findings were quite surprising, & his knowledge of the environment & where the world's headed is...you guessed it...fascinating! Andrew & I chatted at Hostelling International in New York about his wonderful book "Visit Sunny Chernobyl: And Other Adventures in the World's Most Polluted Places." So if pollution tourism has peaked your interest, then make sure to purchase Andrew's book on Amazon, & follow his adventures at AndrewBlackwell.tumblr.com & on Twitter at @ABlackwell.
