Episode 135: Stowe Mountain Resort and the Heritage Ski Race
Tuesday, 17 March, 2026
On Episode 135 of Totally Deep Podcast, Doug Stenclik and Randy Young of www.cripplecreekbc.com bring you the lowdown on the world of uphill and backcountry skiing and boarding. Gear, technique, fashion, jargon, guests, and assorted spray from folks who know how to earn it in the backcountry. The world's best backcountry skiing podcast. Doug has returned from Vermont, where he participated in the first (and hopefully annual) Stowe Mountain Heritage Race. The race is skimo in nature but open to all-comers with an adventurous spirit. Lycra is not mandatory. Our guests are Nathan Fry and Brian Lindner, both locals and supporters of the Stowe ski scene. Fry is the director of the Heritage Race, while Lindner is the local historian of the Stowe/Mount Mansfield zone, where he has been a member of the Mount Mansfield Ski Patrol for over 50 years. It's now time to gather around the fire and learn some history about the 10th Mountain Division, Stowe Mountain Resort, and a region's commitment to ski culture. On Episode 135 of the Totally Deep Podcast: Mount Mansfield, the tallest mountain in Vermont. Randy has a dream: to be a ski patroller. Making a reservation and keeping a reservation. The full carbon Mountain Boot. Bike to ski and a journalist's inquiry. Doug gets into the race late. It's nice to know people. Nate Fry in the Vermont National Guard and a race director. Brian Lindner and 52 years in. Stowe Mountain's history. The Heritage Race. Thanks for listening and joining us for the 2025-2026 season. And remember: be safe out there.
