My life partner, Fred Chandon, decided that he wanted to marry me, despite my being completely unaware of it. However, when he asked my father for my hand in marriage, my father decided that, because Fred admitted to having had a vasectomy, he was “certain Susy would like to have children.” It was a conversation I knew nothing about at the time.
