Women in Hunting: How the SCI Sables Are Inspiring the Next Generation of Conservationists The outdoor industry continues to evolve, and women are leading one of its most exciting movements. On the American Outdoor News Podcast, Irene Dudley Hanlon, President of the SCI Sables, shared how the organization empowers women through mentorship, education, and conservation. Furthermore, she discussed the Sables' mission to create opportunities that help women become confident hunters and passionate advocates for wildlife. The SCI Sables have a rich history dating back to 1984, when the organization was founded by Audrey Mertlin. Originally known as the Lionesses, the group later became the SCI Sables while remaining committed to its original purpose. Today, the organization continues to support women through leadership, education, and meaningful outdoor experiences. As a result, the Sables have welcomed hundreds of new members and continue attracting women from every background who share a passion for hunting and conservation. Throughout the conversation, Hanlon emphasized that community is one of the organization's greatest strengths. Annual events, including the SCI Sables Banquet during the Safari Club International Convention, bring women together to build friendships and exchange knowledge. Additionally, members participate in educational workshops, outdoor adventures, and networking opportunities that encourage confidence and lifelong involvement in the hunting community. These experiences create an environment where beginners and experienced hunters can learn from one another without judgment. Education also remains central to the SCI Sables' mission. Hanlon explained how hands-on programs teach members practical outdoor skills, including wild game preparation, ethical hunting practices, and wildlife conservation. Moreover, these educational opportunities help women better understand their role as conservationists while promoting responsible hunting for future generations. By combining mentorship with education, the SCI Sables continue preparing women to become leaders within the outdoor industry. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
