This is it, y'all: the Andrei Rublev episode. I write this blurb from a future where I've now seen 5 of the 7 Tarkovsky features, and currently, Andrei Rublev is my favorite. In the Mark Le Fanu book I reference throughout this series, he says this movie "represents filmmaking about as physically ambitious as it is possible to contemplate." And here, I'm contemplating it with Pod Casty for Me's Ian Rhine. Ian is a sensitive, funny, and intelligent conversation partner, and this episode was truly a joy to make. At one point during recording, I remember sitting back and just appreciating how nice it was to be having such a great talk about such an incredible movie. This episode is longer than the final cut of the film but not as long as the original cut, The Passion According to Andrei.
