JENNIFER ROBINSON: How Defamation Laws Silence Women
Episode 112
Monday, 24 August, 2026
Defamation laws have a long and strange history, and in recent years, these laws have been leveraged in order to silence women who attempt to speak out about abuse. In the midst of the cultural reckoning incited by the #MeToo movement, many women across the globe are facing a legal reckoning. This is the central point of the new documentary Silenced. The documentary's main subject is Jennifer Robinson, a human rights lawyer who represented Amber Heard during her testimony in the libel case brought by Johnny Depp against The Sun newspaper. Jennifer and Abbie discuss how defamation is weaponised, what responsibility the media has to prevent violence against women, and Abbie's personal regret in the way she engaged with the media circus around Amber Heard's legal battles.LINKSFind a screening of Silenced near you: https://www.silenced-film.com/where-to-watchFollow Jen on Instagram: @suigenerisjenBuy Jen's book How Many More WomenSend us your thoughts, topic suggestions, NMFs and more: https://forms.gle/S5Pf327SmVnnC8CE9Check out @itsalotpod on IG at https://bit.ly/itsalot-instagram.Review the podcast on Apple Podcasts https://bit.ly/ial-reviewCREDITSHost: Abbie Chatfield @abbiechatfieldGuest: Jennifer Robinson @suigenerisjenExecutive Producer and Editor: Amy Kimball @amy.kimballIt's A Lot Social Media Manager: Julia ToomeySocial Media and Marketing Strategist: Elizabeth Baxter Hosted on Acast.
