A Conversation With The Way We Speak (Ian Ebright, Patrick Fabian, Diana Coconubo, Kailey Rhodes & Ayanna Berkshire)
Tuesday, 24 February, 2026
In this episode Callum is joined in conversation by the writer/director and cast of the independent feature drama "The Way We Speak".The film focuses on an up-and-coming writer (Simon Harrington) who refuses to leave the spotlight when his best friend and debate opponent suffers a cardiac arrest, leading to an obsession over his new opponent and a growing rift with his ailing wife. When a young bestselling Christian essayist (Sarah Clawson) is asked to step into the debate at the last minute, the series of increasingly intense showdowns about religion gradually shift the film from abstract discourse to Simon's personal life.Writer and director, Ian Ebright, along with cast members Patrick Fabian (Simon), Diana Coconubo (Claire), Kailey Rhodes (Sarah) and Ayanna Berkshire (Annette) discuss at length the process of making the film and was the intricacies of the story meant to them.Through the exploration of Simon's personal journey and the considerations his debate with Sarah forces him to make, the film asks us as viewers to consider whether how we speak is more important than the arguments themselves. Is defeating an opponent the ultimate goal or learning our own personal limitations more valuable?"The Way We Speak" is currently available to stream in the US and will be screened virtually on the 28th February 2026 at 19:00 GMT at Liverpool Film Festival, This will be followed by a Q&A with Ian to discuss his debut feature.
